Weather Alert: Schools Closing in East Tennessee – Check Your District Now

Due to bad weather in the area, school districts in certain areas of East Tennessee are either closed or starting classes later than planned on Monday.

East Tennessee experienced a combination of snow, freezing rain, and rain on Sunday as part of the main weather system sweeping across the United States.

The National Weather Service predicts that Monday afternoon and evening will see more snowfall in Northeast Tennessee.

Numerous school districts decided to close their classrooms on Monday due to the weather and the possibility of dangerous traffic conditions. Some people are enjoying the extra day off over the holiday break.

On Monday, Knox County Schools will reopen and welcome returning students.

The school districts that will be closed or delayed on Monday, January 6 are listed below.

East Tennessee School Closures

On Monday, January 6, all schools in Campbell County, Claiborne County, Cumberland County, and Fentress County will be closed.

Additionally, Gateway Christian School will also be closed on Monday, January 6. Schools in Hancock County will be closed on Monday, January 6.

On Monday, January 6, Harlan County Public Schools will hold their fifth NTI day. On Monday, January 6, Hawkins County School District will open two hours later than scheduled.

McCreary County School District, KY: Closed Monday, January 6; Landmark Christian Academy: Closed Monday, January 6.

Middlesboro Independent Schools, KY: Closed on Monday, January 6th, NTI day 6.

NTI day 4: Tri-State Christian Academy is closed on Monday, January 6; Somerset Community College is closed on Monday, January 6; and Rogersville City School opens two hours later than scheduled.
