Tragedy in Florida: Police Probe Shocking Shooting of 13-Year-Old Teen
A community is mourning after a 13-year-old boy succumbed to gunshot wounds, whereas another child was taken to the hospital after the shooting occurred in Florida City on Saturday night.
Florida City Police responded to a reported shooting near 1329 Northwest 6th Avenue at around 8 pm, where they converged at a house with one Johvan Taylor โ a young teen who had been shot in the back yard beside another child who was also shot, according to Miami Dade Police Department.
Police said that officers tried to save Taylorโs life by offering first aid as Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took him to Jackson South Trauma, where he was pronounced dead. Miami-Dade Police statement on the other child who they said shot themselves took themselves to an area hospital and are in stable condition.
Currently, the police have not released the identity of the second child who was affected in the shooting.
The police said that from the initial findings, a group of youths were outside the house at the time the suspect or suspects fired shots at the group. They then went away in an unknown direction by an unknown vehicle, authorities from Miami-Dade Police were reporting.
To CBS News Miami, Taylorโs aunt said that Taylor was a football enthusiast, dirt bike rider, brother to his little brother and a food lover. A vigil will be conducted for him on Sunday evening by his community.
