South Florida Races to Expand Shelters as Temperatures Plummet – Here’s How It Impacts You

24

As temperatures in South Florida begin to drop, several organizations are stepping up to provide safe havens for those in need. The Salvation Army in Fort Lauderdale has announced plans to increase their bed capacity by up to 75% to accommodate families striving to regain stability. This initiative reflects a broader regional effort to ensure vulnerable populations have access to warmth and safety during colder nights.

In addition to the Salvation Army’s efforts, Broward County has declared a Cold Weather Emergency, activating shelters at locations such as Hope South Florida and The Salvation Army on Broward Boulevard. These shelters operate from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m., providing essential services to the homeless community.

Similarly, Miami-Dade County has opened shelters in response to the cold front, ensuring that individuals experiencing homelessness have a place to stay during the inclement weather.

These combined efforts underscore the community’s commitment to supporting those in need during challenging weather conditions. Residents seeking shelter or those aware of individuals in need are encouraged to contact local services for assistance.
