Snow could arrive in El Paso as early as Tuesday night, so residents should get ready for winter weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Winter Advisory and a Winter Weather Advisory due to strong winds that will cause temperatures to feel as low as zero to fifteen degrees as Wednesday approaches.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold front will bring high winds and cold air into the area late Tuesday, January 7, causing dangerous wind chill levels on Wednesday morning.

By 5 a.m. on Wednesday, winds will cause El Paso’s temperatures to feel like they are in the single digits, maybe as low as seven degrees.

The weather in El Paso this week Snow is also likely to begin to fall in El Paso on Tuesday evening.

The region may see one to two inches of snowfall between Wednesday and Friday.

When a system creates a mix of winter weather that poses a threat, a Winter Weather Advisory is issued; when seasonably cold air temperatures or wind chill values are anticipated, a Cold Weather Advisory is issued. Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures return to normal.

Getting Ready for Winter

Residents of El Paso should safeguard the four Ps in order to be ready for winter.

People: Spend as little time outside as possible, be ready for power disruptions, and keep an eye on the elderly and other vulnerable individuals.

Pets: Try your best to keep your pets inside, dry, and warm. Keep them bundled up and limit their time outside.

Pipes: Disconnect hoses, turn off sprinkler water, open sink cabinets to expose pipes to hot air, and, if at all possible, insulate pipes.

Plants: To assist plants maintain heat, be aware of their temperature thresholds and, if at all feasible, cover them.
