Cold Snap Hits Florida: Freeze Warning Issued for Volusia
Parts of east central Florida will be under a freeze warning and cold weather advisory Thursday morning. It is predicted that temperatures would drop into the 30s, creating potentially hazardous circumstances.
All east central Florida counties, with the exception of Martin County, are under a Cold Weather Advisory from 3 to 9 a.m., according to the Melbourne-based National Weather Service (NWS).
At the same time, inland Volusia and Lake counties are under a Freeze Warning. Wind chills as low as 25 degrees are predicted, while temperatures in the advisory area are predicted to fall to 32 to 39 degrees.
The 4 P’s’
The “4 P’s” which are people, pets, plants, and pipes. These should be protected, the NWS advises locals. It is advised that residents insulate pipes, cover exposed plants, and bring pets indoors.
As residents want to stay warm, space heater safety continues to be of utmost importance. The NWS recommends plugging heaters straight into wall outlets and positioning them on non-flammable surfaces.
Heaters should never be left unattended and should be kept at least three feet away from combustible objects. The weather will be cold with clear sky and a northwest breeze.
When heating their houses, residents should take extra care and get ready for the frost. This cold weather incident emphasizes how crucial it is to be prepared for sudden temperature dips.
