Missouri Weather Update: Snow and Subzero Wind Chills
As winter weather sweeps into the area Thursday night, Springfield residents should brace themselves for snow and dangerously cold wind chills. According to the National Weather Service, there is a 70% chance of snow accumulation overnight starting late Thursday night.
Thursday’s high will be 37ยฐF, but by Friday morning, wind chill readings could be as low as 5ยฐF. It is anticipated that roads, including I-44 and other important thoroughfares, may turn slick, especially when traveling late at night or early in the morning.
It is recommended that drivers use cautious and factor in additional time for commuting. Friday will continue to be chilly, with a high of about 33ยฐF and windy conditions that make it feel considerably colder.
With partly sunny skies and highs of 39ยฐF on Saturday and 38ยฐF on Sunday, temperatures will gradually increase over the weekend.
In the event of icy roads, local authorities advise citizens to restrict their time outside, wear warm clothing, and maintain an emergency kit in their cars. Keep abreast of weather advisories because conditions can change.
