Arid air and prolonged Santa Ana winds prompted the National Weather Service to issue a red flag warning for parts of San Diego.

Lingering Santa Ana Winds Extend Red Flag Warning

San Diego County’s mountains and valleys were under a red flag warning that began at 4 a.m. Wednesday and was set to remain until 6 p.m. Thursday. Northeast winds of 30 to 40 mph are forecast in the highlands, with gusts reaching 65 to 75 mph. The NWS forecasts lower winds overnight Wednesday until Thursday afternoon. The worst wind gusts are forecast Thursday night and Friday early. The NWS predicts windy weather with midday humidity values ranging from %9 to 15%. “Any fires that start will likely spread quickly,” weather authorities said. “Outdoor burning is not encouraged.
