Warning! In addition to the 6–12 inches of snow that the central region of West Virginia has already received since Sunday, the majority of the state will receive more snow before the weekend.

Another wave of snowstorms is expected, according to models issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday. Further snowfall is anticipated throughout Wednesday’s day in higher elevation areas, including Upshur, Barbour, Webster, Pocahontas, and Randolph counties.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for those areas through Thursday morning, and before the advisory ends, 2 to 5 inches of snow could fall.

In addition to the snow that has fallen so far on Wednesday, Central West Virginia west of Interstate 79 and along its length might receive another 1-2 inches by Thursday morning.

The severe cold, which will send overnight temperatures down to almost zero degrees in some places, is the main worry for Wednesday and Thursday, despite the possibility of some snow.

On Thursday, a number of schools have already declared that they will either be closed or use remote learning. With the probable exception of a little snow in the Alps, Thursday will be quite dry. There will likely be a few more inches of snowfall on Friday.

By Saturday morning, much of north central West Virginia will only receive an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow, with snowfall beginning at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday.

The southernmost counties in the state, like Mingo, Logan, McDowell, and Wyoming, that did not receive the majority of Monday’s snowfall could be the most severely affected on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Since temperatures are still below freezing, the rest of the state may receive well over a foot of snow from Monday through Saturday, with the eastern and northern panhandles receiving the least amount.
