Woman dies during Lamar County crash
A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred on Friday, December 20, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Mississippi Highway 42 in Lamar County, resulting in the death of 32-year-old Alaina R. McLeod of Bassfield.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), McLeod was driving a 2004 Toyota Sienna eastbound on Highway 42 when her vehicle collided with a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, also traveling east, driven by 36-year-old Harold A. Guilbeau of Sumrall.
McLeod sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Details regarding Guilbeauโs condition have not been disclosed. The MHP is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine contributing factors.
Alaina Robrielle McLeod was a Rural Carrier Associate with the United States Postal Service and a member of Sweetwater Methodist Church in Bassfield. She is remembered for her love of cooking, art, and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her two children, Channing and Chloe McLeod, her mother, Robin McLeod, and several siblings.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Sweetwater Methodist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
