Breaking: Devastating Los Angeles Wildfires Rage On – January 2025 Updates You Need to See
As of January 10, 2025, wildfires have wreaked havoc across the Los Angeles area, leading to significant destruction and loss of life. The wildfires have claimed at least 10 lives and destroyed over 10,000 structures, including homes and businesses. The fires have spread rapidly from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions that have persisted throughout the week.
The National Weather Service added that a continuation of extremely critical fire weather conditions is expected for some areas of the Southern California Coast, with critical weather expected to remain through Thursday.
Regardless, the Palisades Fire grew with intensity, gusting winds swept across northwest Los Angeles, and at least 30000 people were evacuated from their homes in Pacific Palisades, one of the richest neighbourhoods in the country. The Eaton, Hurst, Lidia and Sunset fires are also still actively burning.
The Palisades Fire in Los Angeles was first reported at 10:Started at 30 a.m. local time Tuesday and has extended its area to over 17,000 acres with the containment level at zero per cent, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, commonly known as Cal Fire. It has burnt down 300 structures, according to Cal Fire. However, L.A. County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone estimates that the number could easily be over one thousand.
The Eaton Fire began on Tuesday evening in the fire-prone zone in the hills near Altadena – a region in the northern outskirts of Los Angeles – forcing about 40,000 people to flee their homes.
Total fatalities reported to the fire are five, the fire has burnt through at least 10,600 acres as of Wednesday afternoon and it remains at zero containment as per the authorities. According to the reports, it had affected close to 1000 structures by Wednesday evening.
The Sunset Fire started on Wednesday evening at the Hollywood Hills close to the Hollywood Bowl and Hollywood walk of Fame forced a fresh round of forced exoduses.
It had burned 60 acres and was still at zero per cent containment on Wednesday night, according to Cal Fire. Nevertheless, officials have raised the issue of a vast majority of people’s evacuation since they noted that fire activity has been declining.
Current Situation
Firefighters are currently battling multiple large blazes, with the most notable being the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire.
The Palisades Fire has burned through more than 19,000 acres and remains largely uncontained, while the Eaton Fire has affected over 13,000 acres. Both fires have caused extensive damage to residential areas, obliterating around 5,000 structures each in their respective regions.
In addition to these two major fires, a new blaze known as the Kenneth Fire ignited in West Hills on January 9, further complicating firefighting efforts. This fire has already led to additional evacuations as authorities fear it will spread quickly due to ongoing high winds.
