Brace Yourself, Indianapolis: Snow Showers & Surprising Temperature Surge Overnight
The National Weather Service predicts periods of light snow overnight along and northeast of I-74 in central Indiana. There will be a little increase in temperature, which will alleviate the extreme cold. Overnight lows will rise into the 20s thanks to clouds and southwesterly breezes, according to the NWS. By Thursday morning, though, wind chills might still be in the teens. After midnight through early Thursday morning, there may be slight traffic difficulties due to light snow showers, especially northeast of Indianapolis.
Road conditions in snow-affected areas may turn slick. Localized bursts of mild snow may also reduce visibility, particularly in the vicinity of the I-74 corridor. The morning commute is a time when drivers are advised to use caution. Wind chills are predicted to remain close to zero this evening before progressively increasing throughout the night. The NWS warned against complacency even though the system isn’t as bad as previous winter circumstances. Indianapolis and the surrounding areas will see rising temperatures, but wind chills may still make it feel colder.
With afternoon highs in the 30s predicted, the rising trend into Thursday offers some respite. By mid-morning, the snow showers should subside, providing for better weather later in the day. Local weather updates should be followed by residents in case the anticipated conditions alter. To battle persistently cold temperatures, dress accordingly and be ready for any delays.
