Bruce Kemp, the owner of Lighthouse Energy Company, shared insights into the value of scrap metal, specifically copper, stating that โ€œbright copper,โ€ which refers to copper wire with its insulation stripped, currently sells for around $2 per pound. He further explained that โ€œlarge, heavier number one copper,โ€ which is clean and untainted, can fetch prices between $3.50 and $4 per pound at present.

Michael Falcone, 50, who worked as an electrician for the Palm Beach County School District, was seen on surveillance footage wearing his district-issued uniform while attempting to sell the stolen copper. The police report revealed images of Falcone at a scrapyard, where he was captured in his blue work uniform with a district badge around his neck, along with the stolen copper.

On Tuesday, when a police officer visited Falconeโ€™s home in Boynton Beach to question him regarding the theft, Falcone reportedly acknowledged the situation before being asked any questions. According to the officerโ€™s account, Falcone immediately said, โ€œI know why youโ€™re here,โ€ and further admitted, โ€œItโ€™s because I stole copper from the schools.โ€

Following the questioning, Michael Falcone is reported to have admitted to his involvement in the thefts and other related crimes. He later confessed to the authorities regarding the illegal activities. As a result of his actions, Falcone has been formally charged and booked with two counts each of burglary and criminal damage to property. Additionally, he faces charges of larceny (theft) and fraud for his role in the copper thefts and the resulting financial damages.
