According to authorities, a drunk passenger in a taxi in New York City choked his driver Monday night before robbing his cab and colliding with a parked car miles away following a joyride. The 47-year-old driver of the yellow taxi allegedly got into a fight with 25-year-old Bronx resident Mame Gueye when his card was refused when he attempted to pay his fare. According to the New York Police Department, the altercation started at East 23rd Street and Lexington Avenue shortly before 11 p.m. Gueye complied with the driver’s request to exit the vehicle at one point, according to the police.

But according to authorities, Gueye shoved the driver to the ground and hit him in the torso. According to authorities, he then put his hands around the driver’s neck before boarding the cab and driving away. Police officials located the stolen taxi on the Upper East Side a few miles distant after it collided with a parked car. After a short foot pursuit, Gueye was apprehended near the intersection of 79th Street and Park Avenue.

Robbery, auto-related grand theft, driving under the influence, criminal obstruction of respiration, aggravated unlicensed operation involving alcohol, third-degree assault, and impeding governmental administration are just a few of the numerous counts against him. According to the New York Post, Gueye was taken into custody in March 2023 on suspicion of driving under the influence.
