The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch and High Wind Watch for the entire island of Oahu, effective from Wednesday evening through Friday morning. A powerful low-pressure system is developing west of Hawaii, moving rapidly toward the islands and bringing extreme conditions.

What to Expect

  • Heavy Rain & Flash Flooding: Torrential downpours will create dangerous flash floods, turning streets into rivers and overwhelming drainage systems. Low-lying and urban areas are at the highest risk.
  • Hurricane-Strength Winds: Sustained winds of 20-35 mph will intensify, with gusts reaching a terrifying 60 mph. Trees could be uprooted, power lines may be knocked down, and structural damage is possible.
  • Timing: The worst of the storm is expected to hit late Wednesday night, intensifying on Thursday, and lingering into early Friday.

How to Stay Safe

  • Stay Indoors: Avoid unnecessary travel, as flooding and falling debris could make roads impassable.
  • Secure Your Property: Tie down or bring inside any loose objects that could be picked up by strong winds.
  • Prepare for Power Outages: Charge devices, stock up on food and water, and have flashlights ready.
  • Avoid Flooded Areas: Never attempt to walk or drive through floodwaters—just a few inches of fast-moving water can be deadly.

Officials are urging residents to take this storm seriously. Honolulu could see some of its worst weather in years, and those who prepare now will be in the best position to stay safe. Stay tuned for updates as the storm approaches
