It’s a tale of two forecasts! Rain-soaked skies will dominate Central Illinois through Friday, but don’t cancel your weekend plans just yet. A surge of warmer air and pleasant weather is expected to arrive by Saturday, making for a much-needed break from the gloom.
Thursday Forecast:
- Springfield: Cool with increasing clouds. Rain moves in by afternoon. High: 43°F (6°C), Low: 41°F (5°C).
- Peoria: Cloudy skies followed by scattered rain showers. Mild air increases the risk of ice jams on rivers. High: 44°F (6°C), Low: 39°F (4°C).
- Champaign: Cloudy, rain showers developing in the afternoon. High: 43°F (6°C), Low: 38°F (4°C).
Friday Forecast:
- Rain will persist across much of Central Illinois. Roads will be slick, and localized flooding may occur in low-lying areas. Expect highs near 44-45°F (7°C) with evening temperatures dipping to around 28-29°F (-2°C).
Weekend Warm-Up:
- Saturday: Sun and clouds take over. Springfield and Peoria will see highs of 45-47°F (7-8°C), while Champaign hovers around 44°F (6°C).
- Sunday: A mix of mild temperatures and increasing clouds. Expect highs in the mid-40s across the region.
What to Watch For:
- Road Hazards: Rain will make road surfaces slippery on Friday, and falling temperatures could lead to isolated patches of black ice.
- Flooding Potential: Be aware of water accumulation in low-lying areas and near rivers.
Safety Tips:
- Drive Carefully: Reduce your speed, especially on bridges and overpasses.
- Check Drainage: Ensure that gutters and drains around your home are clear.
- Stay Updated: Keep an eye on local forecasts in case of any sudden weather changes.
While Friday may be dreary, the weekend promises brighter skies and a warmer breeze to lift spirits across Central Illinois. Don’t forget your umbrella—and plan on soaking up that weekend warmth
