Syracuse to Utica: Here’s What’s Coming for You This Cold, Snowy Weekend

February 1: Cold Snap Sets In

The weekend begins with temperatures in the frigid teens, barely hitting 16°F (-9°C) by day and dropping to 0°F (-18°C) overnight. Cities like Syracuse, Utica, and Ithaca will experience biting winds, making the air feel even colder.

February 2: Snow Moves In

Sunday brings a fresh round of snowfall, with Syracuse expecting 3 to 6 centimeters of accumulation. Utica and Ithaca could see similar amounts, but gusty winds will make conditions feel harsher. The snow showers will gradually intensify by afternoon, so expect slippery roads and reduced visibility.

Winter Weather Advisory in Effect

A Winter Weather Advisory is in place for Tompkins County, including Ithaca, until 1:00 PM EST today. Freezing rain may cause treacherous driving conditions and minor power outages. Travel delays and slick sidewalks are also expected—proceed with caution.

Stay Prepared

Bundle up, stock up, and limit travel if you can. With snow-covered roads and freezing temperatures, staying indoors could be your best option. Don’t forget to check on neighbors, especially the elderly, during extreme cold spells.
