Costco, the third-largest retailer in the world, has announced a significant pay increase for its hourly store workers. According to a memo sent to employees, the retailer will boost the pay for most of its hourly workers to over $30 per hour over the next three years.

Starting this year, top-of-the-scale employees will see an increase of $1, bringing their hourly pay to $30.20. This will be followed by another $1 raise in the subsequent two years, further solidifying Costco’s position as one of the leading companies when it comes to retail wages. The company’s memo highlighted that with these wage increases, Costco’s hourly wages and benefits will continue to outpace others in the retail sector.

In addition to the pay raise for its top-tier employees, bottom-of-the-scale workers will also see an increase of 50 cents, bringing their hourly pay to $20. This move further emphasizes Costco’s commitment to supporting its workforce across all levels.

Costco’s decision to increase pay is notable, especially as it comes during a time when many companies are grappling with worker shortages and rising labor costs. The company’s strong position as the third-largest retailer globally, behind Walmart and Amazon, enables it to offer these competitive wages and benefits to its employees.

As Costco continues to prioritize employee well-being, this pay raise is likely to be seen as a positive example of how companies can invest in their workforce and maintain a competitive edge in the retail industry.
