Southeastern Grocers buying back about 170 Winn-Dixie, Harveys locations from ALDI
The original parent corporation will regain control of several Winn-Dixie and Harveys outlets. A news statement from Southeastern Grocers states that ALDI U.S. has sold about 170 of its stores to “a consortium of private investors, spearheaded by the current CEO and President of Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG), Anthony Hucker, and C&S Wholesale Grocers.” In August 2023, Action News Jax informed you that an initial agreement was being negotiated for ALDI to purchase roughly 400 stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. According to SEG, roughly 220 Winn-Dixie and Harveys stores will continue to be transformed into ALDI stores.
“We stated when we announced our acquisition of Southeastern Grocers that we planned to keep a significant number of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets open, and we’re fulfilling that commitment while simultaneously fostering ALDI’s expansion. Jason Hart, CEO of ALDI, stated in a company news release, “We have witnessed firsthand over the past year how C&S Wholesale Grocers, Southeastern Grocers, and their teams have continued to deliver great quality, service, and value to their customers, and we are confident they will lead the company successfully into its next chapter.”

According to SEG’s press announcement, Hucker will hold the positions of Chair, CEO, and President. We are incredibly honored and thankful to be able to keep helping the areas we care about. In the SEG news release, Hucker stated, “Our culture and future are firmly rooted in our 100-year legacy—a legacy built on strong values and a shared purpose of caring for one another.” “Our dedication to deliberate, purpose-driven growth is unwavering throughout this transformative journey and gives us new impetus to move forward. We are motivated to improve and transform our customer experience and store offerings as we reinvest in the store fleet by hearing our customers’ opinions loudly. This will ensure that every action we do reflects our commitment to our communities and people. News Action Jax has contacted SEG and ALDI to inquire about which local stores will stay open and which are switching to ALDI. Both Harveys and Winn-Dixie locations.
