U.S. Sprinter Fred Kerley Pleads Not Guilty to Charges of Assaulting Officer, Resisting Arrest

Miami Beach, FL – American track star Fred Kerley has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from an altercation with Miami Beach police last month. The 29-year-old sprinter was arrested in January after allegedly pushing an officer and resisting arrest during a confrontation captured on police body camera footage.

On Tuesday, Miami-Dade State Attorneys announced that Kerley will be prosecuted for battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. The incident occurred in the 100 block of 9th Street, where police were investigating an unrelated matter when Kerley approached, expressing concerns about his nearby parked vehicle.

According to police, Kerley became increasingly aggressive and refused orders to leave the area. Authorities claimed he took a “fighting stance” and failed to comply with commands, leading officers to use a stun gun to subdue and arrest him.

Kerley, a world-class sprinter and Olympic silver medalist, has not publicly commented on the case. His legal team is expected to challenge the charges as the case proceeds.

Law enforcement officials have not released additional details about the initial investigation that led to the encounter. Meanwhile, Kerley remains free as he awaits his next court appearance.
