2nd suspect at large after officers shoot armed man during operation in Lauderhill
Following their firing on law enforcement Wednesday night in Lauderhill, which prompted police to retaliate, one suspect was taken into custody on attempted murder charges, while another is still at large, according to officials. According to BSO officials, Tafari Elliot, 28, is still in the hospital following a joint law enforcement operation in which he was shot by a Lauderhill Police officer and a Broward Sheriff’s deputy. According to BSO, two armed individuals confronted members of the BSO Gang Investigations Task Force who were conducting an operation at the Calypso Cay apartments in the 4100 block of Northwest 21st Street. The guys brandished their firearms at police officials.

After drawing his weapon and introducing himself as a law enforcement official, the BSO deputy ordered the guys to put down their weapons. However, the men disobeyed and opened fire on the cops, who then fired back. Despite being hit, Elliot ran away, according to BSO. After that, he was arrested inside the apartment building and transferred to Broward Health Medical Center. The second suspect is still at large after escaping. Elliot is charged with two counts of attempting to kill a police officer. Investigations were underway into the events leading up to the incident. Both the officer and the deputy are on administrative leave while an inquiry is conducted, per regular procedure. The shooting is being looked into by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
