Texas County to Vote on Creating SpaceX City ‘Starbase’

A Texas county is filled with anticipation as officials have greenlit an election that could pave the way for the establishment of a SpaceX city named Starbase. The decision marks a significant step in Elon Musk’s vision of transforming the region into a major hub for space exploration and technological innovation.

Residents in the area will soon head to the polls to determine whether their community will officially be rebranded as Starbase. The initiative, driven by SpaceX’s increasing presence in Texas, aims to solidify the company’s foothold in the region while potentially boosting economic opportunities and infrastructure development. If the proposal passes, Starbase would become the first new town incorporated in Cameron County since Los Indios in 1995.

County officials and local leaders have acknowledged the potential impact of this transformation, emphasizing both the opportunities and challenges that come with such a major shift. “If the election passes, this will be the newest town in Cameron County since Los Indios in 1995. We look forward to seeing the outcome of this election,” said county judge Eddie Treviño in a statement.

SpaceX has already made significant investments in the area, with its Boca Chica facility serving as a key site for Starship development and testing. The prospect of Starbase becoming an official city has drawn mixed reactions from residents, some of whom are excited about the economic boost and technological advancements, while others have concerns about environmental and community impacts.

With the election now on the horizon, all eyes will be on the voters as they decide the future of their community and whether it will become a part of Elon Musk’s ambitious space-age vision.
