Extreme Cold Warning Issued for North and Central Texas: Dangerous Wind Chills and Ice Expected

0

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for North and Central Texas, effective from 9 p.m. on Tuesday until 9 p.m. on Thursday. Residents should brace for dangerously low temperatures and icy conditions that could impact daily activities and travel.

An arctic air mass is expected to arrive in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex late Tuesday, causing a rapid drop in temperatures. Wind chills could plunge to as low as 8 below zero, significantly increasing the risk of hypothermia, frostbite, or even death with prolonged exposure.

While precipitation on Tuesday will mostly remain liquid, temperatures in the 40s will quickly drop once the cold front moves in. This could lead to freezing drizzle and ice accumulation, raising concerns about hazardous road conditions and travel disruptions.

Residents are urged to take precautions, including limiting outdoor exposure, wearing warm layers, and protecting pipes, pets, and plants. Drivers should exercise caution, as freezing drizzle could create slick roadways and dangerous driving conditions.

Meteorologists continue to monitor the situation, and further updates are expected. Officials advise staying informed through weather alerts and preparing for extreme conditions.
