Gov. DeSantis indicates support for abolishing property taxes in Florida
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has stated that he would support an amendment that would eliminate property taxes in the state. Beginning with a tweet by Republican Texas Representative Chip Roy regarding the introduction of a plan to eliminate gas can regulations, DeSantis expressed his opinions in a series of postings on X on Thursday. “A gas can can only be messed up by the government. Let’s make it right. “#GasCanFreedom,” Roy published. First Lady Casey DeSantis of Florida responded to the post.
“We never needed the federal government to get involved with our gas cans, and they don’t need to be involved in every part of our lives.” “For newly constructed residences, property taxes shouldn’t be assessed based on estimated value. The user said, “I built my house affordably, so I should have affordable property taxes to match.” Ron DeSantis responded, “I agree!” “Local, not state, taxes apply to real estate. In order to get rid of them (which I would support) or even to modify or lower them, we would have to rewrite the constitution, which would need the consent of 60% of people,” the governor retorted. “The most audacious amendment with the best potential of receiving that 60% should be placed on the ballot. I concur that the more burdensome and ineffectual type of taxation is the taxation of land and property.
Road maintenance, police and fire protection, schools, and other services like parks are all funded by property taxes. How the state might make up the difference from the loss of property tax revenue was not mentioned in the governor’s posts. Florida has a reputation for being tax-friendly. There are now nine states in the United States without a state income tax, including the Sunshine State. Florida uses corporate income taxes, sales taxes, and other revenue-generating measures to compensate for it.
