Mexican music icon Paquita la del Barrio, known for her powerful voice and unwavering advocacy for women, passed away at her home in Veracruz at the age of 77.
Her official social media accounts announced her death, which was later confirmed by her representatives to The Associated Press. The capital of Veracruz is mourning the legendary singer, who had been battling health issues in recent years.

Born Francisca Viveros Barradas, Paquita la del Barrio rose to fame with songs about heartbreak and betrayal, including iconic hits like Rata de Dos Patas and Tres Veces Te Engañé. She was also known for her bold and confrontational style, often using her famous catchphrase, ¿Me estás oyendo, inútil? or “Are you listening to me, you good-for-nothing?”
