Following a social media threat against MAST Academy on Virginia Key, authorities said that one suspect had been taken into custody. Officials from Miami-Dade County Public Schools acknowledged on Thursday that Miami-Dade Schools Police had made an arrest, although they did not specify if the individual is a student. They didn’t disclose any other information about the danger either. “MAST @ Key Biscayne was the subject of a social media threat that was discovered by Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). After conducting an investigation, Miami-Dade Schools Police made an arrest. M-DCPS respectfully requests that parents keep talking to their kids about social media responsibility. Any threats are treated seriously, and those who make them risk having their lives changed,” the district warned in a statement.

The school has more than 1,500 pupils enrolled in classes ranging from sixth grade to 12. Some relatives were worried when they learned of the arrest. Nicole Landero, whose sister attends the school, said, “It’s scary and I’m glad that they were able to do something about before anything did happen.” “My sister, I’ll be talking to her to see if she hears anything herself to let me know and know to report it as well.”
