Tragic accident in Navi Mumbai: Woman loses her legs after train runs over her
A 50-year-old woman was struck by a train at a Navi Mumbai railway station on Monday, according to an official; she survived but lost both of her legs. A widely circulated video of the incident, which shows the local train gently reversing after passengers on the station notified it, shows the injured woman laying on the rails. The woman, on her way to Thane from the scene of the accident, lost a step and fell over the rails as she boarded the crowded train. The train was already in motion when she was run over by one of its compartments. Other passengers and station security officers sounded an alarm, and the train started to reverse.
Police officers were seen racing onto the tracks to help the woman, who was having trouble sitting up since her feet were bloody, according to the video. Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila claims that “a Panvel-Thane train on platform number three of Belapur station was reversed to save the life of the woman commuter, who was later rushed to nearby MGM hospital.” The woman’s legs were badly hurt when the train went over her, according to the railway official.
