SSA-1099 Form: How to get your Social Security benefit statement if you didn’t receive it?
Making sure you have all the paperwork you need for accurate filing as tax season draws near is crucial. One of the most important documents you will require if you receive Social Security benefits is the Social Security Benefit Statement, or SSA-1099 (or SSA-1042S for noncitizens). The entire benefits obtained during the prior year are listed in this document and need to be included on your tax return. The Social Security Administration (SSA) mails these forms to recipients in January. But if you need an older copy, lost your SSA-1099, or never received it, there are easy ways to get a new one. By visiting the SSA website and signing into your “my Social Security” account, you can quickly obtain a replacement SSA-1099/SSA-1042S if it was lost or did not come. Go to your personal account and log in. You can make an account if you don’t already have one.

Choose the appropriate tax year from the “Choose a Year” dropdown menu after choosing the “Replace Your Tax Form SSA-1099/SSA-1042S” option. Lastly, print the form or download it. Beginning on February 1, a substitute for the most recent tax year will be accessible. The form can be saved on your computer or printed right away. Noncitizens who received or repaid Social Security payments last year can also view their SSA-1042S using an SSA account generated with an ID.me credential if they reside outside of the United States. You can get help from your local Federal Benefits Unit if you need it setting up an account. Additionally, as SSI payments are not taxable, recipients will not get an SSA-1099 information report. The SSA-1099 will be delivered to the last known address on file for tax filing reasons if a beneficiary dies away before receiving it. See IRS Publication 915 or the Social Security Administration’s website for more information. Making sure you have the right tax paperwork now will help you file your return more quickly and with fewer issues.
