A Florida man is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly attacking a service worker and his own mother with a machete at his home in Pembroke Pines. The violent incident left his mother critically injured and sent shockwaves through the quiet Encantada community.

The suspect, 38-year-old Darrell Dean Roberts, was charged with two counts of attempted homicide following the attack on Monday night, according to Pembroke Pines Police. The brutal assault occurred at a residence near Southwest 190th Avenue and 15th Street, where an air conditioning mechanic, Yosvel Itshak, had been working.

According to the arrest report, Itshak needed assistance moving a washing machine in the garage. Roberts’ mother, Vivian Roberts, asked her son multiple times to help, but he refused. Tensions escalated when Itshak walked to his work truck, with Darrell Roberts following closely behind. Roberts then opened his car trunk, pulled out a machete, and slashed Itshak’s arm.

Authorities have not yet revealed the motive behind the attack, but the severity of the injuries has raised concerns in the neighborhood. Vivian Roberts remains in critical condition, and Itshak’s condition has not been disclosed.

Roberts was arrested and taken into custody, where he now faces serious charges. The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about domestic violence and workplace safety, prompting calls for stronger protections for service workers entering private homes.
