Alaskans: Don’t Miss Your $1,702 PFD Check – Apply Before the Deadline
If you’re hoping for some extra cash in 2025, you might be wondering whether you qualify for a payment from the IRS or Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD).
The IRS is sending out payments to some taxpayers who missed their 2021 stimulus checks, while Alaskans may be eligible for a $1,702 PFD check. But who qualifies? When will the payments go out? And how can you make sure you get your money?
Let’s break it all down.
IRS Payments in 2025 – Who Qualifies?
The IRS recently announced that about 1 million people will receive payments in 2025. These payments are for individuals who were eligible for the third stimulus check in 2021 but never got it.
You might qualify if:
- You filed a 2021 tax return but didn’t claim the Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC). Some people left it blank or entered the wrong amount.
- You never filed a 2021 tax return but were eligible for the stimulus payment. You can still file by April 15, 2025, to claim the money.
Not sure if you qualify? Check your 2021 tax transcript or call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 for help.

How Much Will You Get from the IRS?
The amount depends on what you were eligible for in 2021:
- Up to $1,400 for individuals
- Up to $2,800 for married couples
- An extra $1,400 per eligible dependent
If you already received your full stimulus check in 2021, you won’t get another one. But if you were eligible but didn’t claim it, you can still file your 2021 tax return before April 15, 2025, to request the credit.
When Will IRS Payments Arrive?
The IRS began sending these payments in late January 2025.
- If you qualify, you’ll get your money via direct deposit or a paper check—depending on how you typically receive tax refunds.
- Haven’t received your payment yet? Use the “Get My Payment” tool on IRS.gov to check your status.
Alaska PFD Checks in 2025 – Who Qualifies?
The Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) is an annual payment funded by Alaska’s oil and gas revenues. It’s available to Alaska residents who meet these requirements:
- Lived in Alaska for all of 2024
- Plan to stay in Alaska indefinitely
- Did not claim residency in another state or country in 2024
- Did not have a felony conviction in 2024
If you meet the criteria, you can apply online or by mail before the March 31, 2025, deadline.
When Will the PFD Check Arrive?
If you apply by March 31, 2025, you can expect your $1,702 PFD check in October 2025.
- Payments will be deposited directly into your bank account or sent as a check, depending on your selection.
- Check your PFD application status at pfd.alaska.gov.
How to Make Sure You Get Your Payment
- Check your 2021 tax return to see if you missed the IRS Recovery Rebate Credit. If you never claimed it, file before April 15, 2025, to get your money.
- If you live in Alaska, apply for the PFD before March 31, 2025, to secure your check.
- Make sure your banking and mailing info is up to date with the IRS and Alaska PFD program to avoid delays.
