Two Broward Sheriff’s Office Sergeants Placed on Administrative Leave Amid Internal Investigation

Two Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) sergeants assigned to the Oakland Park district have been placed on administrative leave with pay due to what the agency has described as a “breach of confidence.” The decision, confirmed by BSO on Friday, comes as the agency’s internal affairs unit investigates the actions of Victor Carrasquillo and Matt Patten regarding an undisclosed case.

BSO has not released further details on the matter, but this development follows the recent suspension of eight deputies in a separate case involving a triple murder in Tamarac. That incident occurred when Nathan Gingles fatally shot his estranged wife, her father, and a neighbor before abducting his 4-year-old daughter, who was later found safe on February 16.

Following the tragedy, Sheriff Gregory Tony strongly criticized the way investigators handled the case, calling it a “piss-poor performance.” The suspensions and ongoing internal investigations highlight growing concerns over accountability within BSO, as the agency works to address missteps in high-profile cases.
