Coral Gables authorities have arrested a man in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left a juvenile injured over the weekend. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Carlos Alberto Abreu Mendez, is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury and driving without a valid license.

The incident occurred shortly before noon on Saturday near Mira Flores Avenue and Cocoplum Road. According to the arrest report, the juvenile was riding a bicycle and entering a traffic circle when he was struck by a black pickup truck. The impact caused the juvenile to fall to the ground, leaving him with a severe bleeding wound on his left forearm.

Initially, Abreu Mendez stopped at the scene, but after the injured juvenile reassured him by saying, “It was my fault” and “I am okay,” he got back into his vehicle and drove away. However, authorities quickly located the black GMC Sierra pickup with minor damage to its right rear side. Shortly after, Abreu Mendez was taken into custody.

The case remains under investigation, and officials have not provided further details about the juvenile’s condition.
