Florida Police on Hunt for Killers After Tragic Toddler Shooting

16

Authorities in Fort Lauderdale are ramping up efforts to bring justice for 3-year-old Rylo Yancy, who was tragically shot and killed while playing at a birthday party last summer. While one suspect has been indicted, police say there are more individuals involved in the fatal shooting and they are determined to track them down.

The heartbreaking incident took place on July 21, 2024, at Riverland Park. Rylo was enjoying time on a playground slide when gunfire erupted, striking him. Despite being rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, he did not survive. His death has left the community in shock and mourning.

One Suspect Arrested, More to Come

On March 10, 2025, Fort Lauderdale Police announced the indictment of 20-year-old Tyler Tyrone Hollins on a first-degree murder charge. Hollins was already in jail on unrelated weapons charges when authorities linked him to Rylo’s death.

Investigators believe the shooting was the result of a dispute between Hollins and another person at the party. Things escalated quickly, leading to gunfire from multiple shooters in two vehicles. Rylo, an innocent bystander, was caught in the crossfire.

While Hollins is now facing charges, police say they are far from done. Additional suspects have been identified, and authorities are urging them to come forward before they are caught.

A Plea for Justice

At a recent press conference, Sergeant Don Geiger spoke about the devastating impact of the case. He recalled standing in the hospital room with Rylo’s grieving family and vowed that the police department would not rest until all those responsible are behind bars.

Rylo’s grandfather, Jerrold Pough, made an emotional plea for those involved to turn themselves in. The family is determined to see justice served and hopes that no other family has to experience such a senseless tragedy.

Reward for Information

Police are urging the public to come forward with any information that can help lead to more arrests. A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone with tips that lead to the capture of additional suspects.

Sergeant Geiger sent a clear message: those involved in this crime will be caught. He also reminded the community to remember Rylo’s name and the innocence lost that day.

Community Calls for Action

This tragedy has shaken Fort Lauderdale, with residents demanding action against gun violence. Rylo’s death is a painful reminder of how quickly disputes can turn deadly, leaving innocent victims in their wake.

As the investigation continues, police urge anyone with information to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477. The community’s help is critical in ensuring that justice is served and those responsible are held accountable.

The fight for justice for Rylo Yancy is far from over, but Fort Lauderdale police and the community are united in making sure his death does not go unanswered.
