Tragic Discovery Near Castle Rock State Park: Bodies Found in Car Linked to Missing Teen

Authorities have confirmed that the two bodies discovered in a car near Castle Rock State Park belong to 17-year-old Katherine Schneider and a companion, who had been missing for several weeks. The remains were found on August 12, 2023, in a ravine near the abandoned vehicle, which had been located on Skyline Boulevard near the park on August 7.

Discovery and Identification of the Bodies

Katherine Schneider, a Saratoga teen, had been missing since July 5, 2023. Her family reported her disappearance after she left home in her white 2019 Honda Accord. Her parents had been searching for her and were devastated when the discovery was made. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of the remains found in the vehicle as Schneider’s, based on fingerprint analysis.

The second body discovered with Schneider has not yet been officially identified, and the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain under investigation. The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Family’s Heartbreaking Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

Katherine’s mother, Nola Schneider, shared her grief in a heartfelt post on social media, writing, “It’s difficult to put into words how much Katie will be missed. She was such a vibrant and bright light in all our lives.”
