Woman Who Set Up Guy to Spend 31 Days in Jail Because He was ‘Creepy’ Learns her fate
A Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to jail time after fabricating a horrific attack that resulted in an innocent man spending a month in jail. Anjela Borisova Urumova, 20, falsely accused 41-year-old Daniel Pierson of kidnapping and attempting to rape her outside a supermarket last year. After an investigation revealed the truth, Urumova pled guilty to multiple charges, and now faces her consequences for the harm caused.
False Allegations Lead to Wrongful Imprisonment
In April 2024, Urumova claimed she was attacked outside a Redner’s supermarket in Middleton Township. She reported that Pierson pulled her pants down and struck her in the face, leaving her with a visible lip injury. Urumova’s statement led to the wrongful arrest of Pierson, who was subsequently charged with multiple felonies related to the alleged assault. Pierson spent 31 days behind bars while authorities investigated the case. During the investigation, Middletown Township Police reviewed surveillance footage from nearby retailers and conducted a forensic examination of Urumova’s cell phone. The findings exposed several inconsistencies in her story, leading police to question her version of events. When confronted, Urumova admitted to fabricating the entire incident. She confessed that she had specifically targeted Pierson, identifying him and his vehicle based on prior sightings.
Urumova Admits to Lying and Manipulating Evidence
Urumova revealed that her injuries, including the cut on her lip, were not caused by Pierson. Instead, she confessed that they occurred during a confrontation with her grandmother. According to Urumova, her grandmother, who suffered from dementia, had thrown a plastic object at her, causing the injury. However, Urumova chose to blame Pierson because she had seen him before and found him “creepy.” She described Pierson’s vehicle, a dark blue Ford F-150 pickup truck with a “thin blue line” sticker on the back window, and provided details about the truck’s condition that helped authorities confirm her deceit. Urumova’s decision to fabricate the attack and falsely accuse Pierson of a serious crime was not only malicious but also left a deep emotional and legal impact on the victim.
Justice for the Innocent Man
Following Urumova’s guilty plea to seven criminal charges, including false alarm to an agency of public safety and tampering with physical evidence, she was sentenced by Judge Stephen A. Corr. On Tuesday, Urumova was ordered to serve 45 days to 23 months in a state correctional facility, along with one year of probation. Additionally, she must undergo a mental health evaluation and pay $3,600 in restitution to Pierson, whom she is prohibited from contacting. Bucks County District Attorney Jennifer Schorn condemned Urumova’s actions, noting that her false report not only harmed Pierson but also undermined the integrity of the justice system. “A crime like this can shatter the community’s confidence in the system,” Schorn stated. Pierson’s family attended the sentencing but chose not to make a statement due to the emotional nature of the case.
The Ripple Effect of False Allegations
The case serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of false accusations, particularly when it comes to serious crimes like rape and kidnapping. Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristin M. McElroy emphasized the lasting damage caused by Urumova’s actions, acknowledging the extensive work of law enforcement in clearing Pierson’s name but lamenting the unjust time he spent behind bars. “She targeted an innocent man and accused him of one of the worst crimes,” McElroy said. “But it can’t change the fact that a man spent 31 days sleeping in a cell for a crime he didn’t commit.”
