Authorities in Monroe County have arrested one man and are actively searching for another in connection to the theft of $15,000 worth of lottery tickets. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that Jorge Acevedo Perez, 47, of Big Coppitt Key, was arrested last month and charged with grand theft and conspiracy. The incident took place at a Circle K store located on Overseas Highway. Detectives believe that Perez conspired with 20-year-old Dave Dackens Pluviose, a former employee of the same store, to carry out the theft. The pair reportedly devised a scheme to steal a large quantity of lottery tickets without any payment being made at the register.

Caught on Camera

Surveillance footage from the Circle K store played a critical role in identifying the suspects and documenting the crime. Investigators said the video clearly shows Pluviose handing over stacks of lottery tickets to Acevedo Perez while bypassing the payment process. Authorities estimated the stolen tickets to be valued at approximately $15,000. Of those stolen tickets, officials reported that around $8,000 were eventually redeemed as winnings. Additional surveillance from a local supermarket revealed both men together, allegedly cashing in some of the winning tickets—further evidence of their collaboration in the theft.

One Arrested, One on the Run

Acevedo Perez was apprehended and now faces formal charges of grand theft and conspiracy. He is currently in custody as the legal process moves forward. Meanwhile, law enforcement is still working to locate Pluviose, who remains at large. The sheriff’s office has urged the public to come forward with any information that might help in tracking down the second suspect. Detectives are also investigating whether other individuals were involved or if more charges will be filed in the coming days.

Investigation Ongoing

Officials have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the case continues to unfold. They are reviewing more surveillance footage and gathering further evidence related to the theft and the cashing of stolen tickets. The incident highlights concerns about internal theft and employee misconduct within retail establishments, especially in cases involving high-value, easily redeemable items like lottery tickets. Authorities are using this case as a reminder to businesses to maintain vigilant internal security and monitor high-risk items closely.
