St. Clair Shores Man Accused of Brutally Killing Mother, Attacking Brother in Shocking Family Tragedy

A Macomb County community is reeling after police say a man turned violently on his own family, killing his elderly mother with a broken broomstick and then attacking his brother in a horrifying sequence of events over the weekend.

A Call for Help Turns into a Nightmare

It all started late Saturday, April 5, when William Streeter made a chilling call to 911. He had just returned to the family home on 11 Mile Road and found his mother, 76-year-old Loretta Streeter, dead in her bedroom. According to police, she had been impaled in the eye with the jagged end of a broken broomstick.

As if that wasn’t horrifying enough, while William was still on the phone with emergency services, his 46-year-old brother Armando allegedly launched at him. Investigators say Armando tried to strangle William and attacked him with a padlock tied to a rubber band, a homemade weapon he apparently used as a slingshot. William survived the attack and managed to get away until help arrived.

Charges Filed as Investigators Piece Together the Horror

Armando Streeter has since been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his mother, as well as assault with intent to murder his brother. Both charges could put him behind bars for the rest of his life if he’s convicted.

On Tuesday, he appeared in court for arraignment, where prosecutors pushed for no bond, calling him “an extreme risk to society and to his surviving brother.” The judge agreed, ordering that he remain in custody until his next hearing, which is scheduled for April 15.

Signs of Trouble Before the Tragedy

This wasn’t the first time police had been called to the Streeter home. According to records, Armando had been arrested back in November 2024 after allegedly assaulting his mother. That case was later dropped, though no official reason was given.

Authorities haven’t released details about Armando’s mental health history, but some neighbors say they’d noticed signs that something wasn’t right. One neighbor, who asked not to be named, said, “He kept to himself mostly, but there were a few times when we heard shouting from the house. I don’t think anyone could’ve imagined this, though.”

A Quiet Neighborhood Shaken

The crime has left neighbors stunned and heartbroken. “It’s terrifying,” said Lisa Harmon, who lives two doors down. “She was a sweet older woman. I used to see her working in the garden. I can’t believe this happened to her.”

Local officials are grappling with how something so brutal could unfold behind closed doors.

“This is a truly tragic and disturbing situation,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “The details are gut-wrenching. Our office will do everything in its power to make sure justice is served.”

Security Footage and Evidence Tells a Grim Story

Detectives working the case say the home’s security system captured audio that could become critical evidence. According to St. Clair Shores Police Detective Sgt. Brad Benac, investigators reviewed footage that captured banging noises and a woman’s voice crying out for help in the hours leading up to the discovery of Loretta’s body.

“That audio, while difficult to listen to, paints a clearer picture of what might have happened inside that room,” Benac said.

What Happens Next

Armando Streeter will remain in jail as the legal process unfolds. His preliminary examination will determine whether the case proceeds to trial. In the meantime, the community continues to mourn the tragic loss of Loretta and rally around her surviving son, William.

Anyone with additional information that might help the investigation is encouraged to contact St. Clair Shores Police.
