Wife of Weezer Bassist Charged After Hit-and-Run Suspect Wanders into Her Yard: Police
Jillian Shriner, a Los Angeles author and the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been arrested for attempted murder after allegedly pointing a handgun at police officers during a manhunt in the Eagle Rock neighborhood. The incident took place on Tuesday as officers were pursuing suspects from an unrelated hit-and-run case. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Shriner, also known professionally as Jillian Lauren, confronted officers in her backyard with a handgun. Officers ordered her multiple times to drop the weapon, but she allegedly refused. Police fired at her after she pointed the gun at them, striking her with a non-life-threatening wound.

Gunfire and Arrest During Police Manhunt
The altercation occurred as LAPD officers searched the area for three suspects who had fled a hit-and-run crash. One of the suspects was last seen near a home adjacent to Shriner’s property. As police moved through the rear yard of that residence, they spotted Shriner in the neighboring yard with a firearm. Though it was initially unclear whether she had discharged her weapon, LAPD officials now believe she did fire one shot. Evidence, including a recovered shell casing and video footage supports that conclusion, according to law enforcement sources who spoke with ABC News. After being shot, Shriner went into her home but later re-emerged with another woman and a child. She was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment. A 9mm handgun was recovered from her residence. She was later booked on suspicion of attempted murder and released on $1 million bail the next day.
Not Connected to Hit-and-Run Incident
Authorities confirmed that Shriner was not connected to the original hit-and-run case that brought officers into the neighborhood. One male suspect in that investigation was apprehended by the California Highway Patrol. The other two suspects remain at large. Police also confirmed that no officers or bystanders were injured during the confrontation with Shriner. The officer-involved shooting is currently under internal review by the LAPD, which is standard procedure in such incidents.
Shriner’s Background in Writing and True Crime
Shriner, 51, is a published author known for her work in memoir and true crime. She gained recognition for her book Behold the Monster, based on interviews with convicted serial killer Samuel Little. Her earlier memoirs, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and Everything You Ever Wanted, have also been widely discussed. She is married to Scott Shriner, the longtime bassist of the rock band Weezer. As of now, neither Shriner nor her representatives have publicly commented on the arrest or the pending charges. Shriner is expected to appear in court on April 30 as the case moves forward.
