Men Drilled Hole in Woman to Obtain Bank Card Code After Swiping $20K in Jewelry: Cops

Authorities in Washington state have arrested two men in connection with a harrowing case involving kidnapping, attempted murder, and robbery. The suspects—identified as 24-year-old Kevin Daniel Sanabria Ojeda and 25-year-old Alexander Moises Arnaez-Gutierrez—are facing multiple felony charges in King County Superior Court. Investigators say the men targeted a woman for months before ambushing her at her home and attempting to kill her for a purse containing $20,000 worth of jewelry. The violent attack occurred on January 21 at the Park Des Moines Apartments in Burien, a suburb of Seattle. According to court documents, the suspects were waiting for the woman when she returned home from work. Prosecutors describe the attack as a premeditated and calculated crime.

A Terrifying Ambush and Violent Assault
The incident began when a neighbor reported hearing the victim scream followed by a gunshot. Deputies from the King County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched for a welfare check but couldn’t find the woman. About an hour later, authorities in a neighboring county located the victim on the side of a highway—60 miles from her home—with multiple gunshot wounds. From her hospital bed, the victim shared chilling details with investigators. She explained that she saw two unfamiliar men near her apartment before being confronted by them. One suspect, armed with a gun, said they had been waiting for her and knew she lived alone. He accused her of being late and stated they had waited three hours. The attackers allegedly fired a shot at her and then forced her into their vehicle. Once inside, she was ordered to lie down on the floor in the back seat while they demanded her purse containing valuable jewelry. The suspects then used a drill to bore a hole into her right hand, demanding her bank card PIN.
She Survives by Playing Dead
After withdrawing a small amount of cash—around $40—the suspects drove the woman to a remote highway location. Believing she knew too much, one of the attackers declared that they needed to kill her. They pushed her over a highway retaining wall and fired a shot. The bullet struck her in the shoulder, but she pretended to be hit in the head and played dead. Once the suspects left, thinking she was dead, the woman climbed back over the wall and flagged down a passerby for help. Meanwhile, the suspects returned to her apartment complex and stole her car. At the crime scene, investigators recovered significant evidence, including a shell casing, blood, and the victim’s lip gloss. Cell phone data and ATM records supported the victim’s version of events.
Suspects Tracked Down Across State Lines
A “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) alert was issued for the stolen car, which was later found in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Investigators linked the address where the car was located to Ojeda. Police also discovered the suspects’ vehicle and the drill used in the attack. With the help of the FBI, Ojeda was arrested on January 31 at a hotel in Illinois, where police also recovered the stolen jewelry. Arnaez-Gutierrez was later arrested in Mercer Island, Washington. KOMO News reports that he has ties to the Venezuela-based gang Tren De Aragua. Both suspects are being held on a $1 million bond and are scheduled to appear in court later this month.
