Man finds woman from car accident, spray paints home and pours sugar in gas tank: Cops
In a concerning incident in Westlake, Ohio, a 64-year-old man named Michael Dietz was arrested for vandalizing a woman’s home and attempting to damage her vehicle, actions stemming from a car accident that occurred in August 2023.
On the morning of April 10, 2025, Westlake Police responded to a report of property damage at a local residence. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the front of the house, including windows and a Ring doorbell camera, had been extensively defaced with black spray paint. Additionally, there was evidence suggesting that an attempt had been made to pour sugar into the gas tank of the homeowner’s vehicle, a tactic often used to incapacitate engines.
Surveillance footage from the property revealed the suspect’s actions, and the homeowner recognized him as someone familiar. Investigations revealed that Dietz and the victim had been involved in a traffic collision in August 2023. When confronted, Dietz admitted to the vandalism, stating his motive in explicit terms. He further expressed regret that his actions were not more severe, referencing the potential use of a firearm.

Dietz was subsequently charged with felony vandalism and misdemeanor aggravated menacing. The latter charge was added due to his threatening remarks during the arrest. He was held overnight and appeared before a judge the following day. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be considered by the county grand jury.
Captain Gerry Vogel of the Westlake Police Department expressed surprise at the nature of the crime, noting that such behavior is typically unexpected from someone of Dietz’s age. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation and the ongoing nature of the investigation.
This incident underscores the lasting impact unresolved disputes can have and highlights the importance of addressing grievances through appropriate legal channels rather than resorting to retaliatory actions.
