An Indiana teenager who brutally killed his father inside the family’s convenience store before heading to school has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Ahmed Al-Malahi, now 18, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the February 2023 killing of his 52-year-old father, Tawfika Al-Malahi, in Fort Wayne. He will receive approximately 14 months of credit for time already served in custody. The plea agreement resulted in the dismissal of a murder charge, with prosecutors acknowledging that the teen acted “under heat of passion.” The chilling nature of the crime and the defendant’s calm behavior afterward shocked local authorities and the community.

Meticulous and Violent Attack Inside Family Store

According to court documents, the attack took place inside the One Stop Store on Creighton Avenue. Then 16 years old, Ahmed Al-Malahi reportedly hid under a table, waiting for his father to arrive. When Tawfika entered, the teen launched a violent and premeditated assault, stabbing his father 45 times. Authorities say the teenager stabbed his father in the back multiple times and struck him in the head with a piece of metal. Even after the victim had collapsed, Al-Malahi continued the attack, slitting his throat and inflicting a skull fracture—injuries believed to have occurred after death.

Cover-Up and Casual Return to School

After the attack, Al-Malahi attempted to stage the scene to look like a robbery. He cleaned parts of the store with bleach, stole money from the cash register, and took the DVR containing the surveillance footage. He then changed his clothes and disposed of the DVR, weapons, and bleach bottle in a dumpster behind a nearby elementary school. Despite the brutal killing, Al-Malahi continued his day as though nothing had happened. He rode his bicycle and then took a bus to Northrop High School, arriving around 11:40 a.m. His calm demeanor at school further stunned investigators, given the severity of the crime committed just hours earlier.

No Motive Released, Teen Remains in Custody

Tawfika Al-Malahi’s body was discovered later that day. Although the murder appeared staged to look like a robbery, detectives quickly focused their investigation on Ahmed. He was arrested shortly after the killing and has remained in jail since then. Authorities have not released any official motive for the crime, and court records did not indicate any prior history of domestic violence or conflict between father and son. As part of the plea deal, the teen avoided a potential life sentence for murder, but will now spend most of his adult life in prison.
