‘I’m the One who Ended Up in Handcuffs’: William Levy Speaks After Bonding Out of Jail
Cuban-American actor William Levy was arrested in South Florida this week on charges of disorderly intoxication and trespassing after a reported incident at a local restaurant. The 44-year-old was taken into custody on Monday night in Weston, Florida, and later released on bond Tuesday evening. According to the arrest report, Levy was “highly intoxicated and causing a disturbance” inside a restaurant. The situation escalated to the point where the restaurant’s manager asked him to leave the premises and not return. Law enforcement officers were eventually called to the scene to intervene.
Ignoring Police Orders Led to Arrest
When a Broward County deputy arrived at the restaurant, Levy was reportedly told several times to leave the property. Despite repeated warnings, the actor refused to comply and was subsequently arrested. He was taken to Broward County Jail and charged with one count of disorderly intoxication and one count of trespassing. Levy’s bond was set at $250 for each charge, totaling $500. He was released from jail the following day and appeared in high spirits as he exited the facility.

Actor Responds to Reporters After Release
After being bailed out of jail, Levy faced a swarm of reporters outside the Broward County Jail. In a light-hearted moment, he jokingly ducked behind someone to avoid the cameras before stopping to briefly address questions. When asked what led to his arrest, Levy said he was simply trying to help. “All of a sudden, he started arguing with another guy to deescalate the situation, and I’m the one who ended up in handcuffs,” he told reporters. He then walked to a white pickup truck and drove away. His response suggested that he believed his involvement was misunderstood and that he had stepped in to prevent a conflict, not cause one.
From Telenovelas to Hollywood
Born in Cuba, William Levy moved to Miami during his teenage years and quickly rose to fame through his work in Spanish-language television. He became a household name in the world of telenovelas, earning a dedicated fan base across Latin America and the U.S. Levy later transitioned into English-language entertainment, appearing in Tyler Perry’s film The Single Moms Club. He also gained widespread recognition on Season 14 of Dancing With the Stars, where he danced his way to third place alongside professional partner Cheryl Burke in 2012. Known for his charm and charismatic screen presence, Levy’s recent arrest marks a rare public controversy for the actor, who has mostly maintained a clean reputation throughout his career.
