Man on ‘Spiritual’ Fast Murders his Addiction Sponsor ‘and his Dog Too’: Police

A 34-year-old Wisconsin man, James C. Dorr Jr., is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly killing his addiction sponsor, a 60-year-old man, in a violent attack. Dorr has been charged with first-degree intentional murder, possession of methamphetamine, resisting or obstructing a police officer, and mistreatment of animals resulting in death. The charges stem from a brutal stabbing incident in which Dorr allegedly killed his sponsor and the victim’s dog in January 2025.

Fatal Attack at Green Bay Apartment
The tragic event occurred on the evening of January 28, 2025, at an apartment complex on Capitol Drive in Green Bay, Wisconsin. According to the Green Bay Police Department, officers arrived at the scene at approximately 8:50 p.m. to find the victim, identified as “D.V.,” lying on the floor, having suffered numerous stab wounds. The victim was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed that D.V. had suffered 27 sharp-force injuries, including 15 stab wounds to his chest and one to his face. Police also discovered the victim’s dog, a white poodle named “Benji,” dead beneath the victim’s bed. A wallet belonging to Dorr was found at the scene, linking him to the crime.
Dorr’s Confession and Mental State
The investigation revealed unsettling details about Dorr’s mental state at the time of the killing. When questioned by police, Dorr allegedly confessed to stabbing both the victim and the dog, stating, “Yeah I did, and his dog too.” He explained that he was experiencing disturbing thoughts and visions of his daughter and her mother being murdered, which he described as feeling like “the end of the world.” Dorr further admitted to fasting for two days without food or water for what he claimed were “spiritual reasons.” He said that despite getting along with the victim, he had been overwhelmed by these thoughts and did not understand his actions. When asked about the time, Dorr claimed he was unsure of what day or month it was, further suggesting a disturbed state of mind.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Dorr was apprehended the following day while walking on the street. Upon his arrest, he was found in possession of methamphetamine. His ex-wife, who had gone to check on him after being unable to contact him, found the victim’s body and witnessed Dorr fleeing the scene. Police located Dorr shortly after and arrested him. In court, Dorr pleaded not guilty to all charges. He remains in custody at the Dodge Correctional Institution. The case has drawn attention due to the gruesome nature of the crime and the mental health factors involved. Authorities will continue to investigate Dorr’s motivations and his state of mind leading up to the killing.
