Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Identifies Man Shot and Killed by Deputy
Authorities have identified the man shot and killed by a Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy during a tense armed encounter that was captured on surveillance video. The victim, 31-year-old Kelly Allen Hudson, was killed Sunday evening in the Tuscany 3 Village neighborhood in southwest Miami-Dade. The incident unfolded near the intersection of Southwest 130th Avenue and 132nd Terrace, following a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute. According to the sheriff’s office, the situation escalated quickly after deputies arrived on the scene.
Domestic Dispute Leads to Deadly Encounter
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz confirmed that the call to police came from a woman claiming to be involved in a domestic altercation with her husband. The woman, later identified as Hudson’s wife, had reportedly fled to a relative’s home in South Florida from Georgia to get away from her husband. Despite her efforts, she said he followed her down. Upon receiving the 911 call, deputies responded to the residence where the reported confrontation occurred. Surveillance footage captured the dramatic sequence of events, beginning with multiple deputies arriving at the scene and one officer approaching Hudson as he exited an SUV.

Shooting Captured on Video
Video from the scene shows the deputy pointing his firearm at Hudson while repeatedly commanding him to raise his hands and asking if he was armed. Hudson is seen lifting his shirt—possibly to show or reach for something—when the deputy fires the first shot, striking him and sending him to the ground. Despite being down, the deputy issued further commands and then fired additional rounds. Hudson was quickly transported to a hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, but he later succumbed to his injuries. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has since released images of a handgun and holster recovered from the scene, both believed to belong to Hudson.
Investigation Underway
No other injuries were reported in the incident. As per standard protocol in all officer-involved shootings, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has launched an independent investigation to review the circumstances surrounding Hudson’s death. The sheriff’s office has not yet released the name of the deputy involved or confirmed how many shots were fired in total. Officials have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
The case has stirred discussions around police use of force, particularly in domestic situations that escalate into fatal encounters. Sheriff Cordero-Stutz has expressed condolences to the family while also reaffirming the agency’s commitment to transparency throughout the investigation. As authorities continue to piece together what led to the fatal shooting, community members await more details, particularly regarding Hudson’s actions and the deputy’s response.
