A video showing a dramatic rescue has emerged from Vero Beach, Florida, after a law enforcement officer pulled a man from a burning car following a high-speed chase. The incident occurred late at night, just before midnight on May 8, 2025, in the 9400 block of 106th Avenue.

Deputy David Dozer with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office was the first to arrive at the scene. Upon seeing the car engulfed in flames, he quickly checked if anyone was inside. To his shock, he found the driver unconscious and trapped in the vehicle.

With no time to waste, Deputy Dozer sprang into action. Despite the intense heat and the risk of the car exploding, he managed to open the door and drag the driver to safety. His swift actions likely saved the man’s life, as the vehicle continued to burn fiercely moments after the rescue.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was airlifted to the Orlando Burn Center for treatment. Authorities say he sustained serious injuries but are hopeful for his recovery. Thankfully, no one else was reported injured.

Sheriff Deryl Loar of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office praised the deputy’s bravery in a statement. “Our deputies risk their lives every day to keep our community safe. Deputy Dozer’s actions exemplify the selflessness and courage our department stands for.”

The Florida Highway Patrol is now investigating the cause of the crash and the circumstances leading up to the fiery wreck.
