According to authorities, the driver became disoriented while attempting to deliver an order in the rural township. Around 8:30 p.m., the driver, who has not been publicly identified, stopped at a residence on a dimly lit road to ask for help finding the correct address.

That’s when the situation took a dangerous turn.

Police say the homeowner came to the door with a firearm and, after a brief exchange, allegedly shot the unarmed driver. The victim was struck once and was able to call for help. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The homeowner, whose name also has not been released, is cooperating with authorities. So far, no charges have been filed as the investigation remains active. State troopers are reviewing doorbell camera footage and interviewing witnesses to determine whether the shooting was a case of self-defence or a criminal act.

Neighbours in the area expressed shock and concern over the incident.

“It’s heartbreaking that a young person just trying to do their job could end up shot for something like asking for directions,” one resident told local reporters. “We have to do better.”

DoorDash has issued a statement expressing sympathy for the driver and confirming that they are in touch with the victim’s family. The company is also offering support during the ongoing investigation.
