Man Kills Ex-Girlfriend Sitting Next to Her Best Friend Before ‘Breakup Celebration’
A disturbing crime has rocked a local community after authorities say a man fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, who was seated next to her best friend, just before the two women planned a night out to celebrate the end of a toxic relationship.
According to investigators, the 30-year-old suspect, whose name has not yet been released pending arraignment, allegedly tracked down his former partner at a mutual friend’s apartment after learning the pair were planning to go out that evening. Prosecutors say the two women had posted on social media about their plans to enjoy a “fresh start” following the recent breakup.
As the women sat side by side, preparing for the night ahead, the suspect reportedly burst in and opened fire. The ex-girlfriend was killed instantly, while her best friend was left traumatised but physically unharmed. Police say the man fled the scene and was captured several hours later after a multi-agency manhunt.
“This was a calculated, jealous act of violence,” said a spokesperson for the local district attorney’s office. “The victim had taken steps to move on from an unhealthy relationship. Tragically, that decision cost her her life.”
Court documents reveal a pattern of alleged emotional abuse and prior threats made by the suspect. The victim had reportedly considered filing a restraining order but had not yet done so.
The man now faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a firearm, and witness intimidation. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole.
A vigil is planned for the victim later this week, with loved ones remembering her as “bright, funny, and full of life.”
