California’s New Stimulus Plan Will Pay $725 a Month – See If You Qualify!
Sacramento, CA – May 7, 2025 – Thousands of low- and middle-income Californians could see $725 stimulus checks hit their bank accounts starting this month as the state rolls out a new financial relief initiative aimed at helping residents cope with rising living costs.

The program, confirmed by the California Department of Finance, is part of a targeted state relief package to support households facing economic hardship amid inflation and high housing costs. This initiative is separate from federal payments and funded by the state’s budget surplus and special assistance funds under the Golden State Relief Plus initiative.
Who’s Eligible?
To qualify for the $725 monthly payment, residents must meet specific criteria:
-
California residency as of April 2025 and still living in the state
-
Annual income of $45,000 or less for individuals, or $60,000 or less for couples filing jointly
-
Must have filed a 2024 California state tax return
-
Not currently receiving other large forms of state cash aid (e.g., CalWORKs)
-
Be at least 18 years old
-
Possess a valid Social Security Number or ITIN
Those enrolled in SSI/SSP, SSDI, and certain low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities may also receive the payment automatically, with no need to apply separately.
When Will Payments Be Sent?
The first round of payments is expected to be directly deposited between May 15 and May 31, 2025. Those without direct deposit on file will receive paper checks in early June.
Officials say eligible recipients don’t need to apply if they’ve already filed their 2024 tax returns and meet the income threshold. However, those unsure of their eligibility can check their status through the California Franchise Tax Board website.
This stimulus effort is designed to provide sustained relief over several months, with payments potentially continuing through the end of 2025, depending on the state budget and economic conditions.
