Man Arrested After Pointing Gun in Road-Rage Incident Near Fort Lauderdale Airport, Says BSO

A tense road-rage confrontation near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport took a dangerous turn this week when a man allegedly brandished a firearm at another driver, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO). The suspect is now in custody and facing multiple charges.

Authorities say the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, just outside the airport perimeter on Griffin Road, a busy route often crowded with both commuters and airport traffic. The confrontation, which was partially caught on dashcam video by a bystander, has sparked renewed concern over increasingly aggressive driving behaviors in South Florida.

What Happened

According to BSO investigators, the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Joshua Ramirez of Miami, was involved in a verbal altercation with another driver during heavy traffic. Witnesses told deputies that Ramirez became enraged after being cut off and began tailgating the other vehicle.

Moments later, he allegedly pulled up beside the victim’s car, rolled down his window, and pointed a handgun directly at the driver.

The victim, who was not injured, immediately called 911 and was able to provide a partial license plate number and a description of the suspect’s vehicle, a black Dodge Charger.

Swift Arrest

BSO deputies, with the help of license plate recognition cameras, tracked Ramirez down within hours. He was arrested later that evening without incident at his residence in Miami-Dade County.

He now faces charges including:

• Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

• Improper exhibition of a firearm

• Reckless driving

BSO confirmed that a loaded firearm matching the victim’s description was found in the suspect’s vehicle during the arrest.

No Place for Guns on the Road

Officials say the incident is part of a disturbing uptick in gun-related road-rage incidents across Florida. Just last month, the Florida Department of Highway Safety reported a 12% increase in road-rage assaults involving firearms compared to the same period last year.

“This could have easily turned into a deadly shooting,” said BSO spokesperson Carey Codd. “We’re thankful the victim stayed calm and called us immediately. No one should feel unsafe behind the wheel.”

Court Appearance & Next Steps

Joshua Ramirez remains in custody at the Broward County Main Jail, with bond set at $15,000. His first court appearance is scheduled for early next week.

Authorities are urging any additional witnesses or drivers affected by the incident to come forward.
