Widespread Damage in Bennett and Elizabeth

In the town of Bennett, located east of Denver, at least 17 structures, including six homes and a solar farm, sustained damage. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office reported that a tornado touched down multiple times near Bennett, leading to widespread destruction. Power outages affected approximately 90 customers in the area, with crews working to replace over 30 broken power poles and downed wires.

Elbert County also faced the brunt of the storms, with the Elizabeth Fire Protection District confirming damage to at least 19 homes. Firefighters and emergency personnel are actively assessing the situation and providing assistance to affected residents.

Tornado Warnings and Emergency Response

The National Weather Service in Boulder issued multiple tornado warnings across the state on Sunday afternoon, with at least ten warnings spanning eastern and northeastern Colorado. Although all tornado warnings have since expired, a tornado watch remained in effect for northeastern Colorado until 8 p.m.

Emergency shelters have been established to support those impacted by the storms. The Bennett Recreation Center at 455 S. 1st Street is serving as an information hub, while the Adams County Fairgrounds and the Town of Bennett Safety Building are accommodating large and small animals, respectively.

Community Support and Recovery Efforts

In the aftermath of the tornadoes, community members and local organizations are rallying to support those affected. Denver7 has initiated a donation drive through Denver7 Gives, encouraging contributions to aid victims of the May tornadoes in Colorado.

As cleanup and recovery efforts continue, authorities urge residents to stay informed through official channels and to exercise caution in storm-damaged areas. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
