Fourth Escaped Inmate Captured in New Orleans Jailbreak; Six Remain at Large

NEW ORLEANS, May 20, 2025 — Louisiana State Police have apprehended a fourth inmate who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center last Friday, as the multi-agency manhunt for the remaining six fugitives intensifies.

Gary C. Price, 21, was captured Monday evening in New Orleans East. Price, who faced multiple charges including attempted first-degree murder, was found hiding in an abandoned house on Good Drive. He is the fourth escapee to be recaptured since the jailbreak occurred in the early hours of May 16.

Details of the Escape

The escape involved ten inmates who exploited a hole behind a toilet in a first-floor cell to break out of the facility. They used blankets to scale a barbed wire fence and fled across Interstate 10. The breach went unnoticed until a routine headcount at 8:30 a.m., hours after the escape occurred.

Authorities suspect the escape may have been facilitated by inside help. Three jail employees have been suspended pending investigation. Sheriff Susan Hutson acknowledged that defective locks and staffing shortages contributed to the security lapse.

Governor Jeff Landry has ordered an audit of the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office and criticized the facility’s management. He announced plans to relocate all Louisiana Department of Corrections inmates from the jail to more secure state facilities.

State Representative Mandie Landry has proposed legislation requiring immediate public notification in the event of a jailbreak. The New Orleans City Council is scheduled to discuss the incident in a committee meeting on Tuesday.
